Update on Somatosensory & Chemosensory Systems Study Section

The Center for Scientific Review has reorganized the review of applications typically assigned to the Somatosensory and Chemosensory Systems (SCS) study section.  A recurring Special Emphasis Panel (SEP) focused specifically on pain and somatosensation has been formed, with the plan to create a chartered panel after several review rounds. This change comes on a background of persistently high numbers of applications in SCS. Review of application numbers and trends, along with input from program colleagues and external scientists suggested that separate panels are now desirable.  This change will affect applications submitted in June/July 2017 for peer review in October 2017.  Applications focused on pain and somatosensation that would ordinarily be reviewed in SCS, will be assigned to this SEP. Current SCS members with pain and somatosensation expertise will serve as the core of the panel.
